CANNES & THE LERINS ISLANDS

CANNES & THE LERINS ISLANDS

Originally a small fishing village, Cannes has become one of the most well-known seaside and cultural resorts on the Côte d’Azur.

Although principally known for its annual Film Festival and its famous Croisette, this town has a lot more to offer than just that : White sandy beaches in a bay bordered by the Lerins Islands, the authentic old quarter of Le Suquet with its cobbled streets packed with local restaurants, the Rue d’Antibes if you love to shop, and the Parc de la Croix des Gardes, a natural space that looms above Cannes, offering fabulous views.

Our Tip : Visit the Museum des Explorations et du Monde sheltering a collection of antiques, primitive art, orientalism and ethnology. Climb to the top of the watchtower and enjoy a breathtaking 360° view of Cannes and the coast.

Located at the foot of Le Suquet, not far from the old port, the morning rendez vous is the farmer’s market, the Marché Forville, this indoor market boasts regional specialities and local produce, such as honey, cheese, olives, pungent pistou and fragrant tapenade, an absolute must-see for foodies.

The Lérins Islands are another unmissable visit, with spectacular nature and interesting historical sites. Only a 15 min ferry ride from the Quai Max Laubeuf in Cannes.

Must do : Equipped with a mask and tuba, discover the 6 submerged statues of St Marguerite’s underwater Ecomuseum.Visit also the Fort Royal where the prisoner “the iron man mask” was jailed. Otherwise nip over to St Honorat where you will discover the fortified monastery the Abbey de Lérins, the ancestral vineyards cultivated by the monks, as well as the magnificent and photogenic abbey buildings.
