THE PREALPES D'AZUR
No more than one hour away from the Côte d’Azur and Nice, let me take you to discover the Préalpes d’Azur national Park, an incredibly beautiful landscape at the crossroads of an influence by both sea and mountains.

The animal reserve of the Monts d’Azur is a magnificent park stretching out over 700 hectares. This park is a reserve and home to over 500 native European breeds, living in their natural surroundings. You can enjoy either a guided walking tour or even a horse drawn wagon ride to approach some of these rare species in their natural habitat, that include European bison, Przewalski’s wild horses, deer, wild boar, birds such as the Royal eagle, vultures and innumerable insects. If you reserve in advance, it is equally possible to stay overnight in an ecolodge or bioclimatic villa, and enjoy being as close to the animals as possible.(Infos https://www.reserve-biologique.com)

The Saint-Auban lake is situated just a few minutes from the reserve and is definitely worth the detour. You can catch your own trout and even get it served up for you by the adjoining restaurant “La Source”.
On our way back down to the sea again, plan a stop off at the Baume Obscure caves at Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey a fun initiation to geology via a visit to the Souterroscope, a 700m round trip of galleries 60 meters underground.
